Hype on YouTube now earns money in nine more countries. Since 6 November, fans in the US, the UK, Canada and six European markets can spend Jewels to hype a video beyond their free weekly hypes, and the creator earns from each one.

YouTube: Hype with Jewels reaches the US, UK and seven more countries

What changed: TeamYouTube announced on 6 November 2026 that Hype with Jewels is expanding, starting that day, to eligible creators and viewers in the United States, Canada, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Spain, Turkey and the United Kingdom. Until now it was available only in Brazil, South Korea, Taiwan and Japan.

How it works, according to the post:

  • Viewers already get three free hypes a week, for videos in their first 7 days after upload. Fans on mobile can now redeem Jewels to keep hyping after those three, which adds points toward the weekly country leaderboard.
  • When fans hype your video with Jewels, you earn Rubies. The earnings appear in YouTube Analytics and are paid through AdSense for YouTube with your other channel earnings.
  • Fans who hype your video with Jewels during its first 7 days get their handle listed in a recognition section of your video description.

The post does not say what a hype costs in Jewels or what a Ruby is worth, a gap PPC Land also points out.

Who it affects: creators in the YouTube Partner Program with 500 to 500,000 subscribers in the nine countries above. YouTube's Hype help page says Shorts cannot be hyped, and neither can Made for Kids, age-restricted, unlisted or private videos, videos with copyright claims, or videos with a YouTube Giving fundraiser. Live streams and Premieres can be hyped only once they end and become regular videos.

What to do:

  • To start earning, sign the Virtual Items Module in YouTube Studio, complete identity verification, and check that "Let viewers hype" is on.
  • Hype only counts in a video's first 7 days, so the week after you publish matters most. Ask for hypes in that window, in the video itself or a pinned comment.
  • Over the coming weeks, check YouTube Analytics for Ruby earnings to see whether paid hypes add up for your channel.
