Privacy Policy
In effect from 7 November 2026
1. Data controller
CopyMe is the controller of the personal data described in this policy. Contact details are in the Terms of Service and at the end of this page. This policy is written to meet the UK GDPR and the EU GDPR.
2. Data we collect
- Account data: name, email address and, for Google sign-in, profile photo.
- Content: your scripts and what you save with them (such as notes, comments and the people you share them with), writing samples you add, the briefs you give the AI writer, and your settings.
- Video list: basic details of the takes you record and the videos you export (such as title, length and date), so you can see them on each of your devices. The videos themselves stay on your device unless you turn on Cloud Sync.
- Synced videos: if your plan includes Cloud Sync and you turn it on, the videos you choose to sync, with what is needed to open and edit them on your other devices. See Cloud Sync below.
- Billing data: plan, subscription status and renewal date. Card details are collected by our payment provider and are never received or stored by us.
- Usage data: how much of your plan’s allowances you have used, and how the app is used: the pages and features you open, how long each page was on screen and how far down you read, the emails from CopyMe you open, when, and on what kind of device and browser, with approximate location. CopyMe pages visited on the same browser in the week before you sign in are added to it at sign-in. It never includes the text of your scripts.
- Ad measurement data: the ad or link that brought you to CopyMe, saved with your account when you sign up, so we can tell which of our ads lead to sign-ups and purchases.
- Technical data: error reports, approximate country (to show local prices) and server logs, for security and troubleshooting.
Cloud Sync. Cloud Sync is optional and part of every plan except Starter. Without it, your videos are never uploaded. Nothing is uploaded until you choose to sync a video or turn on automatic sync in Settings. For each video you sync, we store the recording, its first frame, the record of the take (its words and their timings, auto-cut results and a summary of its sound), the choices you make when editing it, and any music, b-roll, sound or microphone files used in its edits, so the video and its edit are on every device you sign in on.
Synced videos are stored by our storage provider, Cloudflare, Inc., in private storage located in Western Europe. They are encrypted in transit and at rest. Each account can store up to 100 GB on CopyMe Studio, 25 GB on CopyMe and Founding Lifetime, and 10 GB during a free trial.
A synced video you delete goes to Recently deleted for 7 days and is then permanently deleted. If your plan ends (you cancel it or change to a plan without Cloud Sync, a payment fails, or a trial is not continued), your synced videos become read-only for 30 days, so you can still download or delete them, and we email you before they are deleted. After 30 days they are deleted from our storage. Copies on your devices are not affected. Deleting your account deletes every synced video at once.
3. AI and speech features
Voice follow and Talk it out use your browser’s speech recognition, which may use the browser maker’s speech service under its own privacy terms. We receive only the recognised words.
When you use a feature that relies on AI (writing and editing, suggestions, spoken voices, Talk it out, rehearsal feedback and auto-cut), the text it needs and, for features that listen back to a recording, the sound of your speech (never video) are sent to our AI service providers. They process this data on our behalf and do not use it to train their models. We keep what you save, such as your script or a Talk it out transcript, a count of use for your plan’s allowance, and each brief you give the AI writer with the draft it wrote, so you can use a brief again and so we can make the AI writer better. For each auto-cut, we keep a record of the words heard in the recording, with their times, the cuts chosen, the text left after them, and the browser and device used, so we can find and fix a cut that went wrong.
If you connect CopyMe to an AI app such as Claude, that app can read, create and change your scripts and their details for you until you disconnect it in Settings. The scripts it reads or writes are shared with that app and its provider under their own privacy terms. We keep which app is connected, when it was last used and which actions it took, and the version of a script before its last change by the app, so the change can be undone.
4. How we use data and legal bases
- Providing the Service (your account, syncing, the prompter, AI features, billing and service emails): performance of our contract with you.
- Security, abuse prevention, fixing errors and improving the Service, including CopyMe’s own record of how the app is used and the briefs given to the AI writer: our legitimate interests. That record stays within CopyMe: it is never shared or used for advertising. To object to it, email copyme@ebenezerdon.com.
- Analytics and advertising cookies: your consent in the EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland; our legitimate interests elsewhere. You can change either at any time in Settings.
- Feature emails (a few in your first weeks, about getting the most from CopyMe): our legitimate interests. Every one has a link to stop them.
- Tax and accounting records: legal obligation.
We do not sell personal data or show advertising in CopyMe. We advertise CopyMe on other sites and measure those ads; we do not build marketing profiles of you.
5. Service providers
We share personal data only with service providers that process it on our behalf, under contracts that require them to protect it:
- Cloud hosting, database and sign-in providers.
- A storage provider for videos synced with Cloud Sync.
- AI service providers that process audio and text to provide the features in section 3. A request may go to more than one of them, so the feature keeps working when one is unavailable.
- Email delivery providers.
- Analytics providers, with consent where it is required.
- Google Ads and Meta, to measure CopyMe’s own ads, with advertising consent where it is required. Your email address is shared with them only in hashed form, to match a sign-up to an ad. They also process this data under their own terms: Google Privacy Policy, Meta Privacy Policy.
- Our payment provider, which acts as merchant of record and processes payment data as an independent controller under its own privacy policy.
A list of the service providers we use is available on request: email copyme@ebenezerdon.com.
Some providers process data outside the UK and EEA, including in the United States. These transfers are protected by adequacy regulations, including the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and its UK extension, or by standard contractual clauses.
6. Retention
Account data, content, the video list and the record of how the app is used are kept until you delete them or your account. Briefs given to the AI writer are kept until you delete your account. Auto-cut records are kept for 30 days. Videos synced with Cloud Sync are kept until you delete them (then 7 days in Recently deleted), until 30 days after your plan ends, or until you delete your account, whichever comes first. Allowance counts are kept for the current and previous months. Payment records are kept by our payment provider for as long as tax law requires. How a browser first reached CopyMe is kept in that browser for 90 days. After deletion, only anonymous totals remain, with nothing that links them to you.
7. Your rights
You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, and to data portability. You can export your scripts and delete your account at any time in Settings. For other requests, email copyme@ebenezerdon.com. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk) or your local data protection authority.
8. Cookies and local storage
Some storage is strictly necessary: keeping you signed in, an offline copy of your scripts, your preferences and choices, the CopyMe pages visited before you sign in, the version of a page you were shown when CopyMe tests two, and how this browser first reached CopyMe (kept for 90 days). Recordings are stored in your browser on that device, kept with the account that made them (another account signed in there can’t open them), and are deleted when you delete them, remove them in Settings or delete your account. Copies kept with Cloud Sync are described in section 2.
Two kinds of cookies are optional. Analytics cookies (Google Analytics) show which features are used. Advertising cookies (Google Ads and Meta) measure which of our ads bring people to CopyMe; they are not used to show you ads inside CopyMe. In the EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland both are set only if you allow them; without them, Google Analytics receives only anonymous measurements that store nothing on your device. Elsewhere they are on by default. Everyone can turn either off at any time in Settings. Stripe sets its own cookies on its checkout pages for fraud prevention.
9. Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and access to each account’s data is restricted to its owner and the people they share with.
10. Children
The Service is not intended for anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
11. Changes
We will notify you in the app or by email before any material change to this policy takes effect.
